South Africa | Announced at a gala awards ceremony in Sandton, Johannesburg, the Porsche 911 Carrera T Coupé was confirmed as the winner of the Performance category in CAR magazine South Africa’s Top 12 Best Buys awards.
Established in 2000, these awards are broadly designed to recognise the best value proposition for the South African consumer across twelve of this market’s most popular segments, including entry-level, compact SUVs, and leisure-focused pick-ups (bakkies). The Performance category is notable for recognising vehicles that deliver exceptional driving engagement and thrills.
“Of all the cars featured in our annual Performance Shootout, few could match the level of back-to-basics thrill and driver engagement afforded by what is, by all accounts, an entry-level Porsche 911,” said the publication.
“Sold exclusively with a short-throw manual transmission and packaged to allow as much (real) exhaust note into the cabin as possible, while we can only marvel at the level of engineering that is going into modern hybridised powertrains, the likes of which are featured elsewhere in this category, we remain partial to the old-school charm and character of a finely-tuned internal combustion engine that wills you to learn its characteristics.”
“The fact that the 911 Carrera T sits near the entry point to a range that includes other segment-defining products like the 911 GTS, 911 GT3 and the 911 Turbo S adds to the allure.”
Established in 1957, CAR is South Africa's longest-running and leading automotive platform. The brand built its reputation by providing South African consumers with relevant, unbiased, and comprehensive car-buying advice, backed by independent road-test data and measurements.
