Four weeks ago at the Red Bull Ring, a puncture denied Marcus Amand what looked set to be his first Supercup victory. At the Hungaroring, near the Hungarian capital of Budapest, everything went according to plan. The France-based Finn celebrated a commanding lights-to-flag victory. Driving the BWT Lechner Racing Porsche 911 Cup, Amand controlled the pace throughout the race. Only Chester Kieffer was able to match the Porsche Junior's speed. But even the Schumacher CLRT driver was never presented with a realistic overtaking opportunity.
Wouter Boerekamps enjoyed better fortune at the start. Lining up fourth on the grid, the Dutchman made the strongest getaway. Amand and Kieffer successfully defended against his attack, leaving Boerekamps only able to move ahead of Flynt Schuring. The GP Elite driver went on to secure third place, finishing eight seconds behind the leading duo. Schuring, meanwhile, was less fortunate. The Porsche Junior suffered a puncture due to a collision immediately after the start and was forced to retire at the Schumacher CLRT box.
Rookie Jack Young recorded his best Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup result to date by finishing fourth. The driver from team Target spent much of the race with Robert de Haan in his slipstream. Starting from ninth on the grid, the Dutchman fought his way up to fifth place in BWT Lechner Racing’s Porsche 911 Cup. However, on the demanding, twisty circuit, with track temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, de Haan put considerable strain on his tyres and was ultimately unable to mount a successful overtaking manoeuvre on Young.
Chester Kieffer claimed victory in the Rookie classification for the second consecutive race. Joining him on the Rookie podium were Brazilian driver Matheus Ferreira (GP Elite) and Britain's Liam McNeilly (Ombra Racing). Kieffer now leads the overall Rookie standings.
Former Formula 1 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve experienced an eventful race. The Canadian lost a couple of positions immediately after the start but fought back with a number of overtaking manoeuvres in the series’ VIP car before eventually taking the chequered flag in 20th place.
Albrecht Reimold, Member of the Executive Board for Production and Logistics at Porsche AG, presented the trophies and commented: “I am always impressed by the way particularly the young drivers push the Porsche 911 Cup to its limits. Marcus Amand and Chester Kieffer are both only 20 years old. Once again, the race at the Hungaroring demonstrated why the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup is such a valuable step on the path to becoming a professional racing driver.”
The next round of the 2026 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season, from 21 to 23 August 2026, will feature a double-header. Rounds six and seven of the championship will be held at Circuit Zandvoort in the Netherlands.
Driver comments after the race
Porsche Junior Marcus Amand (FIN/BWT Lechner Racing), 1st place: “It was extremely tight into the first corner. Fortunately, I managed to hold onto the lead. Once the early Safety Car period ended, I quickly built a gap of around one second. After that, the priority was simply to manage my tyres and avoid overheating.”
Chester Kieffer (LUX/Schumacher CLRT), 2nd place, Rookie winner: “Overtaking at the Hungaroring is extremely difficult. Following Marcus, my main focus was therefore on preventing both my tyres and brakes from overheating. I'm very proud to have taken the lead in the Rookie classification, and I'm determined to defend it during the upcoming double-header at Zandvoort.”
Wouter Boerekamps (NLD/GP Elite), 3rd place: “My start was mega. For a moment, even the lead was within reach. But Marcus and Chester closed the door cleanly, so I had to slot into third place. Strangely enough, my Porsche suffered from significant oversteer, particularly through the middle sector. So I quickly lost contact with the two drivers ahead.”
