Germany’s Alexander Tauscher (Target) from Mitterfels in Bavaria crossed the line in third place. On the official podium, Amand received the winner’s trophy from Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President Porsche Motorsport, and said afterwards: “It’s fantastic for me to win at the Red Bull Ring. It was a close race and I really had to fight. The key moment was my start, when I managed to pass pole-setter Alexander Tauscher.”
Against the backdrop of the Austrian Alps, with snow-capped mountains surrounding the circuit, 30 drivers lined up in their new 520 hp Porsche 911 Cup cars. As soon as the lights went out, the action intensified under sunny skies and temperatures of around 20 degrees Celsius: Amand overtook Tauscher in the opening metres to take the lead. Behind them, the field saw numerous position changes and close wheel-to-wheel battles. Masters, who started the 30-minute race from fourth on the grid, moved up to third by lap three and began putting pressure on Tauscher. On lap eight, he passed the German. Two safety car periods closed up the field, but Amand successfully defended his lead at both restarts. When Masters launched an attack for the lead with three laps to go, he ultimately came up short against Amand. After 20 laps, the Porsche Junior secured victory by a margin of just 0.168 seconds. With his performance and the resulting 56 points, Masters moves into the lead of the overall standings after three of 16 races. “A third podium in the third race is of course great. It was a tough fight with Marcus and very close in the end,” said Masters, a two-time Porsche Carrera Cup Italia champion.
Behind the top three of Amand, Masters and Tauscher, Dutch driver Niels Langeveld (Laptime-Performance) finished fourth. Brazil’s Matheus Ferreira (Team GP Elite), a Talent Pool driver, crossed the line in fifth after an impressive recovery drive, having worked his way up from 16th on the grid. Louis Perrot (F/Forch Racing by Atlas Ward) and Gustav Burton (UK/Forch Racing by Atlas Ward) finished sixth and seventh respectively. Sören Spreng (D/GP Elite) secured victory in the ProAm classification.
